First Christian Church changes name to Journey Christian Church
ROSWELL, Ga—The members of First Christian Church of Roswell today announce a new name, Journey Christian Church. This new name reflects a renewed desire of the leadership and church family to become more involved and active with the local community and assist the neighborhood with the love and generosity of Jesus Christ. The church is a non-denominational congregation that was established in the Roswell area in 1954 and moved to its current location at 11365 Crabapple Road in 1989.
Pastor Dan Garrett explains the new name, “For the last year, we have been studying, praying and discussing our role in the community. We have experienced a tremendous revival of concern for others and enthusiasm for making a difference in our world. The name Journey captures the essence of our message that life has many twists and turns. Everyone needs guidance as they navigate towards a fulfilling life. Journey Christian Church truly welcomes all who are seeking direction, not perfection.”
Located on a beautiful campus on Crabapple Road, Journey is a warm, conservative, evangelical church. They offer Sunday morning classes for children, small groups for adults and worship at 11:00 in their main Worship Center. Journey also has a vibrant children’s program and activities for teenagers as well as senior adults.
Founded as First Christian by several families who were committed to building a church that was warm and inviting and based on the fundamentals of the Bible, the church has been committed to making a difference in the community and region ever since. Reflecting the heart of those early founders, Pastor Garrett says the church’s personality has always included a mix of three things: a welcoming spirit, a commitment to preaching truth and a sense of authenticity. Many people through the years have made this church their spiritual “home.”
Chairman of the Elders Chuck Furstenau emphasizes, “We have not altered our beliefs or values. Our name change simply reflects a renewed commitment to being a positive presence in North Fulton.” A new logo and a new website, www.journeyroswell.org, have also been unveiled as part of the re-visioning of the church.
